Home remedies for dry skin on face
Your face is exposed to the wind, the sun, and pollutants, every single day, so it should be no surprise that the skin on your face can sometimes become dry. Some people are more prone to dry skin on the face than others, and, if you leave it untreated, dry skin can crack and that can lead to infection. There are plenty of over-the-counter products that will treat dry skin, but they do little more than the many home remedies that you could be using instead. If dry skin on the face is a problem for you, read on, because we have ten great home remedies for a dry face for you.
1. Banana and yoghurt face mask
If your skin has gotten really dry, you may need some intensive skin care treatment and an all-natural banana and yoghurt face mask will provide just that. The mixture of the two ingredients in this face mask will moisturise and nourish your skin and remove dead skin cells too. Simply mash up one banana and mix it with some natural yoghurt and then apply the mixture to your face and leave it on for about twenty minutes.
2. Castor oil
Castor oil contains Vitamin E and recinoleic acid, which will rehydrate your skin and nourish it. Dab a little castor oil onto the areas of dry skin on your face and the oil will be quickly absorbed into your skin, providing you with instant relief from any itching and soreness. It’s not advisable, though, to use castor oil near to your eyes, as it will sting if you get it in your eyes.
3. Avocado and honey face mask
The combination of all the good, skin nourishing fats in avocado and the antibacterial and antifungal properties of honey make this a wonderfully effective face mask for dry skin. Just mash up half an avocado and add half a cup of pure honey. Apply the mixture to your face and leave it to sit for about fifteen minutes and then rinse off.
4. Milk
The lactic acid in milk will exfoliate the skin, which helps the skin retain more moisture. Milk is also moisturising in its own right and very soothing when applied to dry, chapped skin. Simply soak a clean washcloth in cold milk and hold it to your face for about ten minutes. Then, wash the milk off with lukewarm water only, no soap, and then the milk will keep on working to hydrate your skin for longer.
5. Coconut oil
Coconut oil makes the skin feel wonderfully soft and it’s one of the best natural treatments for dry skin. It works best if you leave it on overnight, but you might want to only apply coconut oil to the very dry patches of skin on your face, because it can block the pores in the skin of some people, especially if you haven’t exfoliated your skin recently.
6. Olive oil and egg yolk
Here’s another great natural face mask for dry skin on the face. Whip together two egg yolks and a tablespoon of olive oil and then apply the mixture to your face and leave it to sit for fifteen minutes. The olive oil is just perfect for putting the moisture back into dry skin and the egg yolks will nourish the skin and make it wonderfully soft and smooth.
7. Oatmeal
Oatmeal is protein rich, so it will nourish skin as well as rehydrate it. It also creates a protective layer over the skin that will help to stop the skin in your face drying out again. You can make a rehydrating facemask by mixing one cup of ground oatmeal with a mashed ripe banana and a bit of warm milk. That will give you a great combination for healing up chapped, dry skin.
8. Curd
Curd will help dry skin by removing dead skin cells from the skin and it also contains antioxidants that will soften the skin and make it more radiant. To get the very best result from curd, mix in a tablespoon of honey and a few drops of lemon juice and then apply it to your face and leave it on for about ten minutes.
9. Almond oil
Almond oil is amazingly rich source of Vitamin E that will help to heal sore, dry skin and rehydrate it. It’s also quite a light type of oil, so it gets absorbed quickly and doesn’t leave a greasy residue. Simply massage some almond oil into your skin and leave it on for about ten minutes and you will be able to see and feel the difference straight away. Steer clear of almond oil if you are allergic to nuts though.
10. Papaya and avocado
Our final natural remedy for dry skin on the face is another combination face pack. For this one, you will need to mash and blend one ripe banana, a slice of papaya, and one half of an avocado. Apply the mixture to your face and leave it on for about twenty minutes and you will be left with soft, glowing and rehydrated skin.
