How To Use Jojoba Oil For Your Scalp?

Do you have itchy, flaky scalp that no amount of medication is able to cure? Often, the reason behind hair fall and frizzy hair is a dry scalp. So, moisturizing the scalp is a very important part of hair care.
Just a shampoo with oil and conditioner should soften and moisturize your hair in most cases, but if they don’t, your scalp must be dry. In such a case, jojoba oil is something you can look up to. Would you like to know more? Just keep reading.

What Is Jojoba Oil?

Jojoba oil is extracted from the seeds of a plant in North America, which is commercially grown for jojoba oil. Jojoba oil is a liquid wax ester and makes up for half of the weight of the seed. It is more stable than coconut and almond oils, which are more prone to oxidation. The Encyclopedia of Alternative Medicine proclaims that jojoba oil moisturizes the scalp, reduces tangled hair, and can be used to moisturize the skin as well.

How Does Jojoba Oil For Scalp Work

Jojoba oil is inherently a wax that is full of fatty acids. So this lightweight oil is actually closest to the composition of sebum, the natural oil secreted from the sebaceous glands in the skin and scalp. Jojoba oil is also a fungicide. So, if your scalp has any kind of fungal infection, jojoba oil is very helpful. Applying jojoba oil on scalp helps in removing the layer of dead skin, dandruff, and dirt, to leave a clean, well-hydrated scalp. Knowing how to use jojoba oil on scalp is the main concern.

Scalp Oil

Scalp oil is essentially any oil that moisturizes your scalp. However, these are marketed specifically as dry scalp remedies. Conditioners or shampoos contain moisturizers. But oils stay longer on the skin than moisturizers do. As a result, scalp oils are recommended for those who have a chronic dry scalp. Many scalp oils contain a main carrier oil, glycerin, and antioxidants. Buy scalp oil with jojoba oil as its main constituent to get the most benefits.

Jojoba Oil Shampoo And Conditioner

This is the easiest and most common way of incorporating jojoba oil into your hair care routine. It is hassle free because you don’t need to do any work. Most shampoo brands have a shampoo containing Jojoba oil and a corresponding conditioner. However, if you are hard pressed to find one, you can make your own. To make the shampoo, mix equal parts castile soap and jojoba oil. Add a few drops of your favorite essential oil. To make a leave-in conditioner, simply skip the castile soap and add water. Mix the oils and water well to make an emulsion. Spray this on after shampooing for long-lasting moisturized hair.

Leave-In Treatment

You can massage your scalp with warm jojoba oil and leave this overnight. Wash it in the morning for clean, moisturized scalp. Or, you can mix jojoba oil with lavender essential oil and rub all over your scalp. Let it stay for half an hour and wash your hair.

After Shampooing

After you have shampooed and feel that your scalp is getting drier, take jojoba oil in a small dropper and apply to your scalp. This will prevent getting greasy hair, but will help keep the scalp hydrated.

Caution

Although jojoba oil is chemically similar to sebum and causes fewer side effects than coconut oil, it is advised to use the oil in small doses to start with. In some rare cases, it has been seen that jojoba oil causes hair fall. Some people claim that their jojoba oil smells like burnt wood. This is false, and if your Jojoba oil has this smell, do not use it, as pure jojoba oil has no smell at all.
